RUN TO THE EAST

In 2011, Director Henry Lu of Moxie Pictures (NYC) completed a feature-length documentary that features three of Wings’ finest alumni: Thomas Martinez, Dillon Shije and Chantel Hunt. While capturing the striking beauty Dinétah (Navajo land) and Zia Pueblo, the film chronicles each runner’s final high school cross-country and track season. While doing their best to compete like champions, these talented student-athletes must also juggle the burdens of college admissions, family, and culture. Run to the East offers an inspiring look at the next generation of Native role models. No obstacle is too daunting for runners who know that they alone, not their surroundings or hardships, determine their destinies.

Though Run to the East is not currently for sale to the general public, Wings of America has been issued a number of copies to share with Native America. If you think your team, class, club, afterschool program, etc. could benefit from a free public showing, please email the organization with some information about the potential audience and a two week window in which you would like to show the film: takeflight@wingsofamerica.org
